Planning Ahead is a Good Idea

My parents never taught me about money or talked to me about how much they made and what bills were. As soon as I got to college I went and applied for many credit cards and got the free t-shirts that they gave you when you applied. Before I knew it, I was over my head in credit card debt and I never had anyone talk to me about why I should or should not get one. I wish my parents did. When my son told me he wanted to pay JC physics tuition I knew that I was going to have to talk to him. He did not know that I had to sit down and talk to him about money. I wanted to let him know that while he could pay for school, he may want to make sure that taking out a loan may be an option. I know that he spends money and that he never has anything in savings.

I want him to have some money in savings in case there is a huge problem down the line. I have so many friends that did not have any money in savings and were buying anything that they wanted and they ended up almost losing their home to debt. I have a lot of friends that have had their homes taken away and even gone bankrupt because they did not have good saving strategies. I do not know how some people actually make a living when they are not even paying the bills that they do have. It is a very sad thing that this is the way some people live. I have a little saved, but it still never seems like it is enough. Eventually, we will get there while enjoying our life as well.
